                         Supplement, dated May 1, 2009

This supplement amends certain disclosure contained in the prospectus for
certain annuity contracts issued by Allstate Life Insurance Company.

Under the "More Information" section, the subsection entitled "Legal Matters"
is deleted and replaced with the following:

LEGAL MATTERS

Certain matters of state law pertaining to the Contracts, including the
validity of the Contracts and Allstate Life's right to issue such Contracts
under applicable state insurance law, have been passed upon by Susan L. Lees,
General Counsel of Allstate Life.

The "Annual Reports and other Documents" section is deleted and replaced with
the following:
